September:
Theme 1: "Ready for School"

Knowledge Focus: Children learn the expectations, routines, and behaviors of school.

Social-Emotional Focus: Cooperation

  • Week 1: “My School”- I am getting to know my school.
  • Week 2: “Making Friends”- I will make friends at school.
  • Week 3: “Learning Together”- I work and play with my friends at school.
  • Week 4: “Getting Along”- I know how to share and I care about the feelings of others.

    October:
    Theme 2: "My Family"

    Knowledge Focus: Children learn about family members, family roles, and unique qualities of families.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Kindness

  • Week 1: “Who’s in My Family?”- I am an important part of my family.
  • Week 2: “We Take Care of Each Other”- I love my family and they love me.
  • Week 3: “Family Fun”- I share special times with my family.
  • Week 4: “All Kinds of Families”- Every family is unique.

    November:
    Theme 3: "Our Community"

    Knowledge Focus: Children learn about the role of the community in their lives and the importance of good citizenship.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Cooperation

  • Week 1: “Places We Go”- I visit many places in my community.
  • Week 2: “People We Meet”- The workers in my community help everyone.
  • Week 3: “Things That Move”- Transportation is for doing jobs and getting around my community.
  • Week 4: “Going Green”- I can make a difference.

    December:
    “Celebrating the Season”- the Birth of Christ, American Christmas Traditions, Christmas Around the World, gingerbread, and “the Nutcracker”

    January:
    “Catholic Schools Week”- celebrating our school!

    Theme 4: "Awesome Animals"

    Knowledge Focus: Children learn about life science through the exploration of animals and their life cycles.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Attention

  • Week 1: “All Kinds of Animals”- I live in a world full of animals.
  • Week 2: “Animal Homes”- Animals have a home just like me.
  • Week 3: “Creepy, Crawly Insects”- I am very curious about bugs.
  • Week 4: “Animals Grow and Change”- Animals grow and change just like me.

    February:
    Theme 5: "“Imagine It, Make It”"

    Knowledge Focus: Children learn how imagination and creativity shape our world.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Initiative

  • Week 1: “Using My Imagination”- I can imagine all kinds of things.
  • Week 2: "Tools We Use”- I can use tools to create and build.
  • Week 3: “Things We Build”- I can use different materials to make new things.
  • Week 4: “Art All Around”- I enjoy art that other people create.

    March:
    Theme 6: “Growing Up Healthy”

    Knowledge Focus: Children learn about their bodies and how to take care of themselves.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Self-Awareness

  • Week 1: “My Senses”- The five senses help me explore my world.
  • Week 2: “Taking Care of Myself”- I know how to be healthy.
  • Week 3: “Eating Well”- I eat healthy foods.
  • Week 4: “Staying Safe”- I know what to do to be safe.

    April
    Theme 7: “Nature All Around Us"

    Knowledge Focus: Children learn about their environment by investigating characteristics of the natural world.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Curiosity

  • Week 1: “How Do Plants Grow”- I can plant a seed and watch how it grows.
  • Week 2: “What’s in the Sky?”- I see how the sky is different during the day and night.
  • Week 3: “Our Weather”- The weather affects what I wear and do each day.
  • Week 4: “The Seasons”- I notice how the seasons change.

    May and June:
    Theme 8: "Moving On"

    Knowledge Focus: Children reflect on all the ways they have grown and changed during the year.

    Social-Emotional Focus: Persistence

  • Week 1: “Going New Places”- I am ready to go to new places.
  • Week 2: “Trying New Things”- I feel comfortable trying new things.
  • Week 3: “I Can Do It!”- I always try my best.
  • Week 4: “We’re Big Now!”- Look at what I can do now.
