Information
February is National Dental Month. I would encourage you to have your child/ren see a dentist annually although ideally every 6 months is suggested. Remind them to brush their teeth often through the day and especially before going to bed. Flossing is essential to preventing gum disease. Also, fluoride is a key treatment to help prevent tooth decay. I have received our supplies from the State and Mrs. Serafinski has been assisting me with the program in grades 1 through 5 since November 21, 2011 and will continue once per week until the end of the school year.
National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 3, 2012 a day when Americans nation wide will wear red to show their support for Women’s Heart Disease Awareness. Heart disease is the number one killer of women. Know your numbers: Total cholesterol less than 200mg./dL, LDL(bad cholesterol) less than 100mg./dL, HDL(good cholesterol)50mg./dL or higher and Triglycerides less than 150mg./dL Blood Pressure less than 120/80. Fasting Blood Sugar less than 100mg./dL.
Here’s how you can take control of cholesterol: Be a label reader eat healthy, emphasizing a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, low fat or non-fat dairy products, fish, dried peas and beans and sources of protein low in saturated fat. Don’t smoke –if you smoke make a plan to stop. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day and lose weight if you are over weight. Finally, know how to save a heart by signing up for a CPR class at our local Red Cross 562-0992 or Noble Hospital 572-5172.
